Bryant Mitchell, PLLC (BM), architects and planners, construction managers, and real estate developers, continues the history of the Bryant and Bryant Partnership, that has been practicing in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for over forty years. The firm enjoys an excellent reputation, affirmed by our numerous repeat commissions. Charles I. Bryant II and Melvin L. Mitchell, FAIA, continue the legacy of the firm.

 

The firm has implemented more than 1,000 design, master planning, construction management, and real estate development projects across a wide spectrum of facility types for both the private and public sector. The project building types include health care, education, commercial, residential, transportation, worship, and water treatment facilities. The firm has a history of commitment to the community and will continue this focus in recognition that the new community is the global marketplace. CHARLES IRVING BRYANT, FAIA (1927-2005)

Melvin Mitchell is CEO of the firm that was originally established in 1965 as Charles I. Bryant & Associates. He joined the firm in 1966 and left in 1972 to launch Melvin Mitchell Architects PC.  From 1972-2004 MMAPC focused on the design and supervision of the construction of large multi-family housing projects. Over that timed he taught at Howard and UDC. He was also a member of the DC Board of Architecture and the DC Historic Preservation Review Board. From 1997-2002 he was the Director & professor at the Morgan State University Institute of Architecture + Planning (now the School of Architecture + Planning). While at Morgan he authored the critically acclaimed 2002 book, The Crisis of the African American Architect: Conflicting Cultures of Architecture & (Black) Power. In 2004 he re-united with his long-time mentor Charles Bryant - then CEO of Bryant & Bryant Architects -  to form Bryant Mitchell, PLLC. Upon Mr. Bryant's untimely demise in 2005, he became CEO of the new firm. He returned to Howard in 2016 as the  James E. Silcott Endowed Chair Professor of Architecture before retiring from academia In 2018. He authored his second book in 2020, titled African American Architects: Embracing Culture & Building Urban Communities.

Over the course of his 23-year tenure with the firm, he has held a series of increasingly responsible positions ranging from CAD operator to senior project manager and now partner on a number of the firm’s most important
projects.

Before becoming a partner in Bryant Mitchell, PLLC in 2005, Alton Green spent 18 years as a practicing architect heading his own firm and 12 years serving as designer and senior project manager for a number of prominent architectural firms in Washington, DC and Chicago.

He is a former Deputy Director of the DC Department of the Housing &  Community Development. Over the past 20 years, he has headed his own company that specialized in comprehensive multi-family housing development projects. Since 2000, he has been BM principal representing Baltimore city governmental, non-profit, and for-profit companies developing affordable multi-family housing developments and retail-commercial real estate ventures.

William Price joined the firm in 2000 after 22 years of increasingly senior level positions with a number of highly regarded architectural firms throughout the metropolitan Washington, DC area. He brings broad experience as a project manager, master planner, and senior designer on a variety of large and complex projects. His background is balanced between government-institutional and private sector development.

He completed the BS in Architecture program in 2010 and the M.Arch program in 2013. He also joined Bryant Mitchell in 2007 and is now senior designer and REVIT-BIM manager for the firm.

Director of IT/BIM and CAFM. Prior to joining BM he had over 20 years of experience assisting local and federal government in the comprehensive and integrated management of facilities inventories including space, fixtures, furnishings and utilities.
